Karen Gard

Karen Gard has been in the mental health field for almost 19 years and has had the pleasure of working in a variety of settings, including hospitals, mental health centers, therapeutic classrooms and schools. Additionally, she worked as a clinical director at a mental health facility and supervised master’s level therapists.

 

This has given her opportunities to work with psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists, teachers, guidance counselors and parents. Karen has been able to utilize this experience in her treatment of children, adolescent, couples, families and adults. She particularly love working with children and teens.  All these experiences have given her opportunities to work with a diverse group of people of different ages, experiences and backgrounds. 

Karen holds a master’s degree in counseling from University of Nebraska in Omaha. Additionally, she has taught courses in Psychology at the college level and has expertise in play therapy, couples’ therapy, family therapy, mindfulness, and parent training. She is certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and in Cognitive Behavioral therapy.

 

Karen also has expertise in assisting people with overcoming depression and anxiety, as well as helping parents and teens navigate the sometimes-difficult path of adolescence

Karen believes that a combination of expertise, caring and support in a nonjudgmental environment are key in assisting clients to achieve a positive life.

 

Taking care of your mind and spirit can have a dramatic impact on one’s physical well-being, as well as helping people with the many transitions through life.  Her goal in therapy is to give people the necessary coping skills to enhance their satisfaction and happiness in their day to day living.
