Megan Sanders,

Megan Sanders is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and visual artist. Her psychiatric practice is person-centered and deeply rooted in the holistic nursing model. She is often humbled by the beauty and strength of the human spirit, and has tremendous respect for each individual’s innate capacity for self-directed healing and growth. Her collaborative approach to treatment blends psychopharmacology, supportive therapy, and health education.
Megan provides care for adults with a variety of mental health conditions including, but not limited to: mood disorders, anxiety disorders, thought disorders, PTSD, and ADHD. She is passionate about empowering others. She especially enjoys working with other artists and creatives.
Background:
Before joining Great Plains Mental Health, Megan worked as nurse practitioner at Nebraska Medicine Psychiatry Clinic for 3 1/2 years. She was one of the highest rated providers in the clinic according to patient satisfaction surveys (4.8 out of 5 stars, 59 patient ratings). In addition to her clinical training, she has several years of experience as a psychiatric nurse, and has worked with adults in the inpatient setting and with youth in residential treatment. Creative expression is an important part of Megan’s life. She believes art is a potent source of healing and transformation for individuals and communities. She is particularly interested in the role of art in stigma reduction, health education, and advocacy. Megan enjoys making and sharing art and has participated in shows in Omaha, Lincoln, and Council Bluffs. In 2011, work from her mixed media series of women with tattoos won inclusion in the Bemis Center Regional Juried Exhibition. In 2013, she spent several months as a Bemis Community Artist-in-Residence at the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) program in Council Bluffs leading an art group for adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
