Mental Health Awareness

Stigma is still an issue that plagues people from getting help with mental health concerns. Mental Health Awareness Month focuses on getting the word out that instead of viewing mental health concerns in a negative light it should be viewed as a biological issue.

Mental illness should be viewed as any other illness. If someone broke their leg that's not viewed as an inadequacy yet when someone has a mental illness it's often not viewed in the same way. This needs to change. Mental Health Awareness month tries to be a beacon of light to do just this.

Stigma is one of the main reasons many never get the help they deserve. Everyone can help with this initiative by talking about mental health in an open manner. Being understanding and open when someone around you is struggling with mental illness is one of the ways we can change the stigma. There is help available.
